Kwasmolo Daycare Center

On the road to one of the most beautiful game reserves in South Africa, Hluhluwe iMfolozi, you will find Kwasmolo Daycare Center.

Palesa Zuku and her husband take care of all the children at Kwasmolo. They arrange all the daycare facilities, food and drinks for the children. Palesa is a certified daycare/preschool educator. The daycare center takes care of the youngest children and continues the good work, even when the children move on to primary school. After school, the children in the neighborhood will visit Kwasmolo for food and drinks and enjoy some play time in a safe environment.

Daycare and education

Kwasmolo currently provides education and care for more than 80 children, between the ages of 3 months and 5 years old. Kwasmolo is the only facility of its kind in the area, serving a very poor rural and tribal community of 16,000 residents. Several residents are either employed in low paying jobs or are unemployed. There is a real lack of funding for child care and preschool education. Kwasmolo provides this service for the community with the help of local volunteer workers.

Keeping Kwasmolo open

This community is one of the poorest in KwaZulu Natal and the unemployment rate is among the highest in South Africa. Keeping Kwasmolo open, continuous to be a real struggle for Palesa and her husband, who are committed to caring for these children. They try to raise awareness of the situation and obtain funding to give the children a head start. They believe that children are our future:

“Raising them in a kind and supportive environment, while giving them basic skills so they can benefit from a formal education, is the best way to uplift our community.”

We are proud to be involved with this project! Deeds for their Needs sponsored new mattresses for the daycare facility – now the kids do not sleep on the ground anymore. Deeds for their Needs also supports a safe playground for the kids.

Visiting Kwasmolo

Visits to the Kwasmolo Daycare Center are possible by arrangement.

Deeds for their Needs recommends booking your stay at the Fever Tree guest house in Hluhluwe. When making a reservation, note in the comments on the reservation form that you want to visit Kwasmolo. Please ask for Tracey, she will arrange your stay and your visit to Kwasmolo.

We also recommend having dinner at the Fever Tree Guest House. The fresh vegetables that they serve come from their own wonderful vegetable garden at the guest house.
